Organization: Utah Afterschool Network, Inc.JOB SUMMARY
With support from the Charles S. Mott Foundation and the Afterschool Alliance and under the direction of the Utah Afterschool Network (UAN) Executive Director and Director of Operations, the Policy & Communications Intern (Intern) will expand outreach about the importance of afterschool programs to local and national policymakers to build greater support for afterschool and summer programs.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
• Coordinate a minimum of three elected official engagement events with UAN Regional Networks during the fall 2020
• Create collateral and marketing materials to distribute to policy makers
• Secure at least two stories/articles/TV appearances with local media
• Connect with Senator Romney’s office and other elected officials to schedule advocacy appointment
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
• Knowledge of the legislative system
• Possess political savviness
• Experience planning and managing events with multiple stakeholders
• Organizational skills to manage multiple tasks, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize in a changing environment and still meet deadlines
• Dynamic self-starter who takes initiative
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Proactive problem prevention and issue resolution leadership ability
• Polished and professional when dealing with afterschool program professionals, partners, stakeholders, policy makers, and executive management
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
